New fiction buyer for BCA
22.04.08 Graeme Neill
Book club operator BCA has appointed Andrew Bentley-Steed as its head fiction buyer with immediate effect, replacing Kate Bradley. Bentley-Steed joins from Methvens, where he was branch manager of the Worthing branch. He was previously also a buyer at Samedaybooks.
Bentley-Steed will report to head of editorial Claire Rose. "Andrew has a wealth of knowledge in the fiction area with a great track record in spotting future bestsellers early on," said Rose. "We look forward to him building on his existing relationships with publishers and to making our fiction offering even more enticing to our customers who are keen buyers in this genre."
The hire follows a raft of departures from the company following its move to Swindon. Bentley-Steed replaces Bradley, who is leaving the book club along with product director Susan van der Schijff, chief financial officer Priska Schick and creative and interactive director Lynne Ritson.
In March, parent company Bertelsmann said that it was mulling a possible sale of its book club wing Direct Group, which includes BCA, following a fall in profits of nearly 91% in 2007.
