Vincenzi hangs on to top spot
08.04.08 Philip Stone
Despite a reduction in sales of more than 13,300 copies week-on-week, Penny Vinzenzi's An Absolute Scandal (Headline Review) remains at number one for a second week. The book, Asda Book Club's pick for April, sold 27,317 units through BookScan's Total Consumer Market during the seven days to 5th April.
Similarly, Karin Slaughter's Skin Privilege (Arrow) vaulted above Delia Smith to take second place with a weekly sale of 26,707, down 2,295 copies on the previous week's sale.
Although the market benefited from an extra trading day week-on-week (Easter Sunday fell in the previous week's data), revenue through the TCM was up just 3.8% week-on-week to £28.6m. The figure is 0.9% up year-on-year when the comparative week ended on the Saturday during Easter weekend.
Meanwhile, Jodi Picoult's Nineteen Minutes (Hodder), the story of a high school shooting, is this week's highest new entry at fourth, almost exactly a year on from the horrific real-life massacre at Virginia Tech, while Nick Hornby's Slam, re-marketed for his adult fans in paperback, charts in fifth.
