Cape wishes Charles happy birthday
08.04.08 Benedicte Page
Prince Charles' 60th birthday in November is prompting a starry piece of occasion publishing, including an extract from the final Harry Potter novel. The poet laureate, four children's laureates and leading illustrators will contribute to The Birthday Book, to be edited by Michael Morpurgo and Quentin Blake and published by Jonathan Cape (6th November, £16.99).
The book will carry an extract from J K Rowling's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, illustrated by Quentin Blake, as well as writing from authors including Jacqueline Wilson and Philip Pullman, and new pieces from contributors including Philip Ardagh and Anthony Horowitz. Axel Scheffler, Posy Simmonds and Emily Gravett have contributed further illustrations.
Royalties from the book are being donated to The Prince’s Foundation for Children and the Arts, which provides schoolchildren with opportunities to visit theatres, orchestras, museums and galleries.
