Coonan goes on buying spree
04.04.08 Kate Islip
Virago's Donna Coonan has bought English and Commonwealth rights excluding Canada in two Mary McCarthy novels from Sara Fisher at AM Heath. The Group will be published in paperback in winter 2009, with The Company She Keeps to follow in winter 2010. Coonan is "very excited" about the acquisitions, saying of The Group: "I can't believe it has been out of print for so long."
Both titles will be published in the Virago Modern Classics series.
Coonan has also snapped up rights in three Barbara Pym novels for the VMC series, meaning that Pym's entire early canon will be available by 2010. A Glass of Blessings, Less Than Angels and Some Tame Gazelle were acquired through Laura Morris at Laura Morris Literary Agency and will be published following the forthcoming VMC editions of Pym's Excellent Women and No Fond
Return of Love.
