German regulator clears DBH
Germany's Federal Cartel Office said it will only allow DBH Buch Handels to buy 44 bookstores out of a planned 52 in Arcandor's Karstadt department stores, due to "anti-trust concerns", reports Forbes.
The Cartel Office said its examination showed that the planned purchase was "problematic from an anti-trust perspective in the cities Kiel, Leipzig, Wiesbaden, Frankfurt and Munich", according to a statement by the regulator.
DBH, a joint venture of Weltbild and Hugendubel, amended its acquisition plans, which were subsequently approved, it said.
DBH operates Germany's biggest bookstore chain, with more than 400 outlets.
