Redesign at Amazon.co.uk
26.03.08 Graeme Neill
Amazon.co.uk has relaunched its website with a new tabbed design and navigation system. The implementation of the new look has been staggered, with a proportion of currently users able to view it. Amazon would not say when the site would be permanently uploaded for all UK-based customers.
Under the design, which echoes developments on the US site Amazon.com, individual "departments" are accessed via a drop-down menu in the top left corner of the screen. The books section is split into Books, Books For Study, Audio Books and Search Inside From Home categories.
The books area has a blue bar across the top of the screen split into various sections. Among the choices offered customers can access New and Future Releases, Bestsellers, Paperbacks and Bargain Books. Users can also browse by genres. The entire catalogue has been split into 34 different categories, whether an audiobook is available or what offers are available.
Sarah Giles, marketing manager at Amazon.co.uk, said the updated site would "create an improved shopping experience" and more clearly signpost new products. "We have always encouraged customers to actively provide us with feedback, and the new design and navigation reflects considerable input from them."
