PFD takes p.o.d. route

Agency PFD is entering a relationship with Lightning Source which will enable it to make out of print works from its authors and estates available through print on demand.
Authors and estates already signed up to the service include the V S Pritchett estate, the Storm Jameson estate and author Angela Huth.
PFD believes the deal will provide two services: making out of print work available again; and giving it the opportunity to represent titles to publishers with a concrete sales history, with a view to being republished on a mainstream list.
The books will be available through Amazon, Bertrams, Gardners and the PFD website. The book jackets will be designed by David Pearson, who was chosen as one of Britain’s top 50 designers by the Guardian in 2007.
The initiative is being overseen by Marcella Edwards, who joined from Penguin Classics earlier this year.
PFD said: "Using new technologies to generate renewed interest in old and deserving titles reflects a powerful combination of past experience and future ambition. PFD is proud to be leading such an initiative which makes available again the work of so many important writers whom PFD represents."
