Samson goes Down Under
18.03.08 Alison Flood
Richard Samson, Lonely Planet's sales director for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, is moving from the company's London office to take up a new role as global trade sales manager based in Melbourne, Australia.
He takes on overall responsibility for coordinating all the trade-facing activities of Lonely Planet around the world, and takes up the new position in June. Lonely Planet is currently recruiting for a new sales director for EMEA.
Samson previously worked at OUP, Octopus and Chrysalis Books, as well as running his own consultancy business, Samson Publishing Consultancy.
He said: "The fact that Lonely Planet has come so far in this region in the past couple of years is down to a hugely committed, creative and energetic team here, together with professional retailers and distributors of the highest quality across the UK and Europe. I shall miss everybody here, both colleagues and customers, and it is a wrench to leave. However, I am very excited about the challenges that my new role will present; and the added bonus is that I will continue to be involved in Lonely Planet’s continuing success, both here and around the world."
