Last ever Walkies in July
14.03.08 Graeme Neill
The Book Trade Benevolent Society's last ever Walkies event, which raises money for the charity, will take place in July. The charity is hoping that this year's event will break the record for the biggest number of walkers and most money raised. This was in 2006, when almost 800 people took part
and £25,000 was raised.
The event raised £15,000 last year. BTBS chief executive David Hicks said that he wanted to seek an alternative way of fundraising for future years. "We hope to have more Walkers, more checkpoints, better hospitality, a bigger and better party, and more fun, this year than ever before, but no-one can put off coming this year or they will miss it forever!" he said.
The event, which will take place on 8th July, is open to anyone involved in publishing. Previous events have seen BTBS president Dame Jacqueline Wilson, Peter James and Dugald Steer take part.
