Popbitch annual from Century
11.03.08 Alison Flood
Century editorial director Hannah Black has acquired the first annual from cult internet newsletter Popbitch. Black bought world rights from Karolina Sutton at ICM, and will publish in hardback on 16th October this year.
The annual will include as yet unpublished material, editorial comment and Popbitch's own "humorous invective and celebrity name-calling". The newsletter has over 360,000 registered subscribers.
Black said: "As any self respecting media junkie will know, Popbitch is the only place to go for your fix of celebrity news, offensive surnames and otter pictures and so we're delighted to be publishing their long awaited annual which will be full of outrageous stories and knitting patterns."
Popbitch added: "Popbitch took its first tentative steps across the internet in the final days of the last century. We've been in the perfect place to chronicle how the love of celebrity culture has exploded from underground guilty pleasure to a dark and twisted international obsession. Here, we try and make sense of what's been going on; reveal some of the stars who've tried to silence us with their expensive lawyers; and celebrate the weird and wonderful world of 21st century pop culture."
