US senator signs with Gibson Square
11.03.08 Katy Islip
Gibson Square has snapped up US senator John McCain's Hard Call: The Art of Making Tough Decisions, and is rushing it through for publication in April.
The book will be the first McCain title to be published in the UK, and will detail the key 20th-century figures who have influenced the Republican presidential candidate with their "character and courage". Gibson Square is pitching it as a key title for the US elections, but also as "an inspirational business book".
With an initial print run of 10,000 planned, preparations are underway for a five-figure PR and marketing campaign that will run from pre-publication right up to the November US elections. Key targets will be the management and business media, with review and feature coverage also expected from the broadsheets and specialist press. Satellite TV and radio interviews are lined up, and Gibson Square is reporting significant interest in serial rights ahead of what is set to be a fiercely-fought US election campaign.
Publisher Martin Rynja believes UK interest in the US presidential race will remain high, saying it is likely to be "one of the most exciting [US] elections ever" as the US public has been "traumatised" by the Bush administration.
The US edition of Hard Call was published last August by Twelve, part of Hachette Book Group USA.
