Routledge backs Dedalus
06.03.08 Alison Flood
Taylor & Francis imprint Routledge Books is to sponsor independent publisher Dedalus for the next two years as part of Informa's corporate responsibility programme. Earlier this year, Dedalus was told it was to lose its Arts Council England funding. The translation publisher said the new Routledge sponsorship meant that it would "be able to honour the commitments it has undertaken to its authors, translators, cultural institutions and other publishers". It said that, on top of financial support, the sponsorship deal would also mean that Dedalus would be able to benefit from the "technical expertise and advice" of Routledge.
Taylor & Francis book publishing m.d. Jeremy North said the deal was "a great way to give something back to the wider literary and intellectual publishing community." He added: "Informa takes its corporate social responsibility very seriously - it's a very important part of what Informa is about."
He would not elaborate on the amount of money the sponsorship deal was worth, but said that it was enough to "sustain" Dedalus and to prevent it from "having to cut back on its ambitions". Dedalus will remain entirely separate from Routledge.
