Haynes buys technical upgrade
29.02.08 Philip Jones
Motor manuals publisher Haynes has bought Vivid Holdings, a Dutch based provider of technical information to the professional automotive market. Haynes paid €8.0m (£6.0m) in cash for the business, which last year made a pretax profit of €0.9m (£0.7) on revenue of €4.3m (£3.2m).
Haynes said that it was well placed to extend its franchise to become a major world wide supplier for all automotive and motorcycle technical and repair information. "This acquisition represents a significant strategic step in that repositioning process," it added.
Haynes said that the the Vivid database would allow the group "to leapfrog" the development of its own professional product and would also provide Haynes with in-house skills covering language translation, web development, DVD production and copy protection security.
"In a changing global market place that is increasingly demanding content through multi-media channels, the board of Haynes believes the acquisition of Vivid can be of great assistance in expanding its current core product range into new products and new markets."
