28.02.08 Alison Flood
BBC Books editorial director Martin Redfern is to join HarperPress as editorial director for non-fiction in April. Redfern currently commissions books tied into history, science, religion and current affairs programmes on BBC television and radio.
He has been at BBC Books for seven years. Prior to BBC Books he was an editor at Weidenfeld & Nicolson and Dorling Kindersley.
Arabella Pike, publishing director of HarperPress, said: "Martin is an editor of great talent, experience and promise. During his time at BBC Books he has proven his ability to publish intelligent non-fiction to a wide market time and again. He is exactly the person who will help us build on recent successes and his appointment shows we're serious about driving this part of the business and making Harper Press the UK's imprint of choice for quality non-fiction."
Redfern added: "After seven extremely happy and stimulating years at BBC Books I feel the time is right to broaden my experience, and I'm absolutely thrilled at the prospect of commissioning books on such a distinguished list. HarperPress is the perfect fit for my personal interests and tastes, and I can't wait to join the team at such an exciting time."
