S&S signs diplomat
Simon & Schuster has signed a book by high-ranking British diplomat Carne Ross, who resigned from the Foreign Office over Iraq. Editorial director Mike Jones bought UK and Commonwealth rights excluding Canada from Jonny Geller at Curtis Brown.
Ross was Britain's key UN Iraq negotiator ahead of the Gulf War, and also had a spell as Robin Cook's speech writer. His first book, Independent Diplomat, was published by Hurst & Co last February.
Called The Cosmopolitan Anarchist, the S&S title will explain how individuals or small groups can change the world for the better. Published in 2009, it will also detail how the traditional power elite is being sidelined by globalisation and technological developments.
