The Orion Publishing Group is to publish a memoir from rap artist Eminem, a.k.a. Marshall Mathers, this October, entitled The Way I Am. Ian Preece, senior commissioning editor at Orion bought English language rights for UK & Commonwealth from Marc Gerald at The Agency Group and Luca Scalisi.
To be published on 16th October, The Way I Am (hb, £20) is a visual and written memoir, featuring numerous unseen photographs, hand-drawn art, sketches for lyrics, notes form journals, as well as an introduction and present-day narrative from the rapper and other bonus material created for the project.
Eminem's albums, The Slim Shady LP, The Marshall Mathers LP, The Eminem Show together and various greatest hits collections, have collectively sold 80 million records worldwide. Eminem also won an Oscar for Best Original Song for the semi-autobiographical film "8 Mile".
Preece believes The Way I Am will be "one of the books of the year. "Everyone has their own take on Eminem," said Preece. "Because of where he is from, people think they know where he is at, what kind of person he really is. This book cuts through all that and gets to the source."
