Stable start for Dawson Books
19.02.08 Graeme Neill
Media supplier Dawson Holdings has made a "good start" to 2008, according to its chief executive. Peter Harris was talking after the company issued an interim statement for the four months to 31st January, ahead of its annual general meeting on 25th February. "The strong operational performance of the businesses underlines our confidence in the group’s future progress," he said.
Dawson Books, which is a core academic supplier to UK customers, had a "good solid stable" performance over the four months. It had previously experienced a drop in profits in the year to 29th September 2007, which was blamed on tough trading conditions and IT investment, which included launching its e-books platform Dawsonera in September.
However, Harris said that the business was now better placed to succeed. "The essentials for us were to get the content uploaded, build relationships with both publishers and universities and get the platform up and running," he said. "We now have more than 100 publishers involved and more than 50,000 titles available."
In the statement, Dawson Holdings said that there had been no "significant" change in the group’s financial position "with cash generation remaining strong".
