Teen suicide novel to Cape
15.02.08 Alison Flood
Jonathan Cape's Ellah Allfrey has acquired a debut by Peter Akinti called Forest Gate. Set in 2006 in Forest Gate, East London, it is about teenage suicide, following the story of James whose unsuccessfully tries to commit suicide, when his friend succeeds.
Allfrey said: "This is a profoundly affecting novel that forces the reader to connect, on a very personal level, with the stories (of teenage suicide and gang violence) behind the headlines. Peter writes of two boys coming of age in East London with honesty, an uncompromising clarity and a refreshingly original voice."
Jonathan Cape has world rights in all languages and plans to publish summer 2009.
