Ebury signs two from Hardy
Ebury has acquired world rights two books from comedian Jeremy Hardy. The first book is due in Spring 2009, and will be an account of his attempts to investigate his family history, "part family memoir, part enquiry into the world of genealogy and part comic adventure", according to the publisher.
Perrier Comedy Award winner Hardy is a regular on Radio 4 comedy programmes such as "The News Quiz" and "Sorry I haven't a Clue". He frequently tours with his stand-up show and has been a columnist for the Guardian and ES magazine.
Andrew Goodfellow, publishing director of Ebury Press who acquired world rights from Nick Ranceford-Hadley at Noel Gay, said: "For such a literate comic it is astounding that he hasn’t been successfully tempted to take the plunge into full narrative writing before. Genealogy is the nation’s biggest non-sporting pastime (the website Genes Reunited alone has five million members) and it is a perfect subject for his acute comic skills. It promises to be the kind of rich and amusing personal narrative that Ebury does so well with."
