Mr Gum on television
22.01.08 Alison Bone
An animated television series of Andy Stanton's Mr Gum books is in production with Nickelodeon, with a pilot episode due by the end of the year.
The series is being co-written by Stanton with Andy Bobrow, writer on "Malcolm in the Middle”. The deal was struck by Eve White at Eve White Literary Agency, and follows a world rights deal with Egmont for a further four Mr Gum titles, bringing the series to eight books.
Stanton, 32, won the Red House Book Award last year for his first book, You're a Bad Man, Mr Gum! The series features nasty old man Mr Gum, a little girl called Polly and evil butcher Billy William The Third. The fourth title, Mr Gum and the Power Crystals, is published on 4th February.
