Macmillan author and former TV scriptwriter Sue Grafton is this year's winner of the Crime Writers' Association's Cartier Diamond Dagger for her Kinsey Millhone series of thrillers.
Starting with A is for Alibi, the series has now been published in 28 countries, with Macmillan releasing the latest, T is for Trespass, in the UK in April.
Grafton has previously won three Anthony Awards at the annual Bouchercon World Mystery Convention, three Shamus Awards, and in 2004 received the Ross Macdonald Literary Award given to a California writer whose work raises the standard of literary excellence.
On hearing of the award, Grafton originally thought it was a joke or a mistake. but is now looking forward to the presentation, which will take place in London on 7th May. "I'll be there with bells on, as they say over here. I'm thrilled with the news and honored at the prospect. I confess I'm still slightly worried there's an error in the works, but I'll be there nonetheless," she said.
Sue Grafton wins the Cartier Diamond Dagger in its twenty-third year. Previous winners include John Harvey, Elmore Leonard, Ruth Rendell, Dick Francis, John Le Carré and P D James.
