Indie publishers honoured

Six publishers have been nominated twice each for the Independent Publishers Guild's second annual Independent Publishing Awards, including last year's children's category winner Barrington Stoke. The five other indies joining Barrington Stoke are Arcadia, Alastair Sawday, Earthscan, Michael O'Mara and Snowbooks.

The awards, organised in conjunction with The Bookseller and the London Book Fair, aim to showcase the UK's independent publishers. The ceremony takes place on 8th March at the De Vere Grand Hotel in Brighton during the IPG's conference. In all, 22 different companies are vying for nine awards, including two new "topical" categories, the IPG Environmental Award and Publishing Technology E-Publishing Award. A 10th prize, the overall Van Tulleken Independent Publisher of the Year, will be picked from the award winners.

Bridget Shine, executive director of the IPG, said: "These awards reward the magnificent achievements of independent publishers and show just how much variety and talent there is in companies of all shapes and sizes working in every corner of the book business."
