Robyn Sisman says goodbye to Penguin
11.01.08 John Ryan
Robyn Sisman is moving from Penguin to Orion after Paperbacks m.d. Susan Lamb paid a six-figure sum for two new books by the popular women's fiction author.
Lamb bought UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, in Goodbye Hollywood—which charts the wayward course of an LA starlet in the UK—and a subsequent novel. Jonathan Lloyd, Sisman's agent and c.e.o. at Curtis Brown, said the deal was for an "obvious six-figure sum" and that beyond the second novel for Orion, the intention would be for Sisman to remain with her new publisher.
Commenting on Sisman's decision to change publishers, Lloyd said: "It's nothing against the house, it's just that there are times in an author's career when it is time to move on." He added: "It's like a marriage. It's meant to be for life, but sometimes you have to get divorced."
Sisman is the author of titles including Summer in the City and Weekend in Paris for Penguin. "I've always liked Robyn and knew her quite well," said Lamb. "I've always said that if she [Sisman] wanted to move publisher, then we were around. There are a number of authors that we really like but who are with other publishers."
Billed as "Notting Hill" for the noughties, Goodbye Hollywood is due for publication in mid-June this year.
