C4 chief at Bookseller digital seminar

Channel 4's digital marketing guru has joined the line-up of speakers for The Bookseller's first seminar of 2008. Cameron Saunders, who oversees the acclaimed marketing campaigns for the broadcaster's digital channels, will offer lessons for book publishers seeking to forge direct relationships with consumers.

His fellow speakers at "Reaching Readers Online 2008" on 31st January will include the renowned digital consultant Peter Collingridge of Apt Studio, who will explore how publishers can build communities, authors and series brands online. Consumer trends agency The Future Foundation will present fresh research into how readers are accessing digital information and entertainment, and the implications for "reading time" and publishers.

One session will compare how a giant publishing group and a small independent are already selling substantial numbers of books direct, dealing with demographics, email marketing and improving their margins. A line-up of publishers will offer "golden rules" of marketing in genres such as women's fiction, fantasy, teen fiction, travel, business, and humour books.

Presenters include Roni Jay of White Ladder Press, George Walkley, director of digital strategy at Little Brown, David Lester, m.d. of Crimson Books, Peter Harden, co-founder of Harden's, and Ruth Jeffrey, digital marketer at Headline.
