Portico plumps for Bad Idea
Portico Books is launching a new writing competition with Bad Idea magazine, giving the winner a chance to appear in a new anthology.
The Bad Idea Anthology, a paperback collection of the best writing from the magazine, will be published by Portico this summer, with the winner of the writing prize included as a featured author.
Entrants have to submit a 1,500-word non-fiction story on the topic "the pen is mightier than the keyboard". The competition closes on 31st January, and the winner will be chosen from five finalists.
All finalists win a year’s subscription to the magazine, a signed copy of the anthology and a bottle of whisky. In addition, their work will be reviewed by Portico publisher Tom Bromley and literary agent Charlie Campbell of Ed Victor. The winner will also receive a year’s supply of Portico titles.
Bromley said: "As a publisher, I’m always on the lookout for new voices, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what talent this competition uncovers."
Campbell added: "My previous experience of judging prizes has involved terrible, filthy sex writing and, worse, contemporary poetry. So this prize comes as a tremendous relief. I’m hoping for lively, unusual stories."
