O'Mara looks to bounce back
02.01.08 Tom Tivnan
Michael O'Mara says it is set to bounce back from a "slightly disappointing" 2006/2007 after strong sales of its range of nostalgia books and Judy Parkinson's Christmas bestseller I Before E (Except After C).
In recently released results for the year to end-February 2007, turnover at Michael O'Mara fell to just over £5m, down from £6.1m the previous year. After tax profit was down to £151,000 from £546,000 the previous year.
However, Michael O'Mara said it had matched its 2006/2007 turnover and profit figures by end-November 2007. It expects to be 50% up on last year by the end ofFebruary 2008. The rebound has been fuelled in part by Parkinson's memory aid title, which shifted 32,346 copies through Nielsen Bookscan in Christmas week. Nostalgia-themed titles such as The Boys Book continue to sell strongly, and Michael O'Mara has also seen growth after expanding children's imprint Buster.
"We're steaming ahead," said publicity director Ana Sampson. "It's been a spectacular year and we only expect it to get better in 2008."
