Hero Hiro to BBC
20.12.07 Anna Richardson
BBC Books will publish an original novel based on TV series "Heroes" and its Japanese time-travelling character, Hiro. The novel, Saving Charlie, is written by Aury Wallington with the co-operation of the show's creators and will be published by BBC Books on 6th March 2008. It is about Hiro's attempt to save his first love, a smalltown waitress, by travelling through time.
BBC Books editorial director Martin Redfern said: "While fans of the tele-vision series were given only a brief glimpse into Hiro and Charlie's relationship as it grew over six, time-changing months, their history is told here with the depth and insight that only a novel will allow."
Susan Bolsover, category director at Copyright Promotions Licensing Group, who brokered the deal with BBC Books, added: "We had huge interest from publishers looking to pick up rights for ‘Heroes' long before even a writer for the novel had been brought on board, which is testament to the massive appeal of the show."
