Aussie Borders sale delayed
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has postponed its decision on the proposed bid for Borders' Australian stores by Angus & Robertson.
The ACCC was due to release its findings on 19th December, but has now said that it expects to announce the outcome of its "informal review" on 30th January.
The extension has been made "to allow for provision of additional information from A&R Whitcoulls, and analysis of information gathered during market inquiries".
Meanwhile, Bookseller + Publisher notes that according to an article published in Christchurch's The Press newspaper, "there is precious little rejoicing going on at news that Whitcoull's is seeking to take over the Borders chain in this country." Whitcoull's was given the go-ahead to pursue a deal for Borders in New Zealand by the country's competition authorities last month.
