"The completion of this transaction is a significant milestone in the transformation of our company. In bringing together Houghton Mifflin and Harcourt, we are establishing the preeminent educational publisher in the United States," said Anthony Lucki, chairman and c.e.o of the new company.
"We welcome our Harcourt colleagues and anticipate a smooth and efficient transition for our employees, customers and all of our other stakeholders. We plan to move quickly toward a fully integrated operation, while maintaining our focus on becoming the first and best choice for our customers."
The sale of the Harcourt Education International businesses to Pearson completed earlier in 2007.
