11.12.07 Joel Rickett
Virgin Books managing director KT Forster has departed the company, eight months after its acquisition by the Random House Group. Random said Forster had "decided to leave to develop new projects". RHG board member and Virgin Books chairman Richard Cable is taking on the day-to-day management of the publisher.
Forster has been at Virgin for 11 years, being promoted to m.d. in 2000 after a stint as as head of international sales. In its most recent results to 31st March 2007 the media, entertainment, health and erotica specialist posted a £1.4m loss on total sales of £5.4m. This March RHG is understood to have paid around £1m for a 90% stake in Virgin Books.
In a statement, Forster said: "Having been with Virgin for 11 years, led the company through its acquisition and bedded it into the Random House Group structure, I feel now is the right time to look at new opportunities. I have loved my time with Virgin and I wish the company all the best for the future."
Richard Cable added: "We are sorry to see KT leave, especially as she had been at the helm of Virgin for so long, and we wish her all the best with her future career. We are, however at an exciting juncture in the development of the Virgin Books brand and will be focusing on leading the company to the next stage of its development."
