New Ackroyd to Chatto
10.12.07 Alison Flood
Chatto & Windus has acquired Peter Ackroyd's new novel The Casebook of Victor Frankenstein, a retelling of the Frankenstein story from the perspective of Victor Frankenstein. Mary Shelley will be a character in Ackroyd's novel, as will Shelley. Chatto will publish in September 2008.
Deputy publisher Penelope Hoare said the book was "a dazzling example of the power of Peter Ackroyd's imagination". She added: "I couldn't stop reading it--and I know that I'll be haunted by Frankenstein's 'voice'--and the image of the resurrection men rowing up the Thames to bring fresh corpses to his Limehouse workshop."
