Ostrowski: 'no show and all substance'
Hartmut Ostrowski, who takes over as chief executive of Bertelsmann in January, eschews the glamour of the German media's groups more glitzy businesses, according to the FT. "The sector's self-image of urbanity and sophistication has failed to impress Ostrowski in a quarter-century of working for Europe's largest media group in out-of-the-way Gütersloh. And it is unlikely to change his style now."
There is no reason why it should. While shunning the limelight and big public pronouncements, Ostrowski has made the once fringe media services unit, Arvato, Bertelsmann's second biggest division after RTL, Europe's largest TV group. Harmut Ostrowski is no show and all substance," says one person involved with his promotion.
