iPod plans book mode

Computer and iPod manufacturer, Apple is developing a new-generation iPod MP3 player with a book reading mode, reports the hindustantimes.com citing the Daily Mail as its source.

Bosses at Apple are working on a widescreen version of the new video iPods, which would greatly ease the reading of digital print material, including "blockbuster" novels John Grisham or Jilly Cooper.

Apple has reportedly asked a number of the world's major publishing houses to commit their full libraries of books to their electronic archives. Customers will be able to download text versions of the world's bestsellers to the memory of their video iPods.

Sounds great in theory but the ease of reading a book on such a device is questionable. I use an iphone and in wide screen mode there's still only limited text that can be placed onto the screen. This will not kick start the ereader market to anything like the same extent as the ipod for music and video.
