More resignations at SPCK
04.12.07 Graeme Neill
Staff at the Newcastle and Truro branches of St Stephen the Great, the Christian bookshop chain formerly known as SPCK, have become the latest members of staff to resign from the business.
Heather Place, who manages the Newcastle-Upon-Tyne branch, and David Ivall, the Truro boss, will both finish on Christmas Eve. In total four staff will resign from the Truro store on that date.
The resignations are the latest to hit SSG after the entire workforce of the Exeter branch walked out in October.
Brothers Mark and Phil Brewer took control of the 25-store chain last year and have moved the branches' identities from what they claimed was "a decidedly liberal agenda" to "more traditional Christian values".
In a statement Mark Brewer said: "We acknowledge their service to this charity and to the mission of Christian bookselling and express our deep appreciation for that service. One of the hallmarks of true Christian mission is that it continues after those who engage in it have moved on. Therefore with God's help, our work in Truro and Newcastle will carry on."
