Egmont has recruited Elizabeth Law as the vice president and publisher of its new US division. Law joins from Simon & Schuster Books where she was vice president and associate publisher for Young Readers.
Egmont Books will launch in the US next year, with plans to become one of the top 10 US children's publishers within five years. The New York-based office will open in January, headed by Egmont UK group sales director Douglas Pocock as executive vice president of Egmont.
Pocock said: "We are hugely ambitious for our business in the USA and we have taken a lot of time to make these two critical appointments. I am truly excited that Elizabeth Law will be joining Egmont. She comes to us with a wealth of experience publishing top authors and shares our commitment for developing children into passionate readers."
"I am thrilled with the extraordinary opportunity of starting a new list of children's books in the US," Law said.
Pocock also confirmed that Random House would handle US distribution.
