Duncan Hamilton in William Hill win
Provided You Don't Kiss Me by Duncan Hamilton (Fourth Estate) has won this year's William Hill Sports Book of the Year Award, beating bestsellers such as Bobby Charlton's autobiography.
Hamilton's analysis of legendary football manager Brian Clough took the £20,000 award this afternoon (26th November) at a ceremony at Waterstone's Piccadilly.
The shortlist also featured bestselling My Manchester United Years by Charlton (Headline), which sold over 87,000 copies through Nielsen BookScan--more than 10 times the amount of Provided You Don't Kiss Me.
The other nominated titles were Kevin Cook's Tommy's Honour (HarperSport), Chuck Culpepper's Up Pompey (Weidenfeld), Nick Ward's Left For Dead (A & C Black) and Simon Wilde's Portrait Of A Flawed Genius (John Murray).
William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe said: "This was perhaps the strongest shortlist ever assembled for the award, and is proof of the success of the prize in encouraging publishers to commission high quality writing as well as the block-buster 'kiss and tell' titles."
