Rough Guides on TV
14.11.07 Anna Richardson
Channel Five has commissioned a series of programmes based on the Rough Guide brand. The 15-part series, "The Rough Guide to...", will air in January and is presented by Toby Amis and Julia Bradbury.
Each 30-minute episode will explore the top five destinations under different themes, such as Best Beaches or Cities. The Rough Guide brand will feature heavily, both in the programme and a tie-in website, with the publisher also involved in generating ideas for the production.
The move forms part of Rough Guide's strategy to reach travellers through different channels, which also included selling products through retailers such as Argos, Next and Debenhams. Rough Guide previously lent its name to a BBC2 travel series in the 1980s and 90s.
Nick Catliff, managing director of production company Lion Television, said: "Like the guides themselves the series will be witty, bold and will pull no punches."
