Rivalry and retaliation in New York
The lengthy defamation complaint filed in State Supreme Court in Manhattan by Judith Regan creates a picture of rivalry and retaliation within the HarperCollins publishing house, reports the New York Times.
"In the complaint, in which she also alleges breach of contract and sex discrimination, Regan accuses Jane Friedman, president and chief executive of HarperCollins and the News Corporation, which owns the publishing house, of mounting a 'malicious assault on her character and reputation.'"
In an e-mail message, a HarperCollins spokeswoman wrote: "As of now, we have not been served, have not seen the complaint and cannot confirm that a suit is pending and therefore cannot comment on it." A News Corporation spokeswoman said the suit was without merit.
