Palmer tackles football for Puffin
13.11.07 Hannah Davies
The Reading Agency's Tom Palmer has signed an eight-book deal with Puffin to write two new children's football series. The five-figure deal, for football crime series The Football Detectives and the six-book Boys United series, was done by Puffin's Sarah Hughes and Alison Dougal with David Luxton of Luxton Harris.
Foul Play, the first title in The Football Detectives series—which is aimed at children aged ten and over—is due on 1st June 2008, with the second following in 2009. The six-book Boys United series for seven to nine year olds is about an under-12 professional football academy. Publication will be staggered throughout 2009.
The deal will mark football fanatic Palmer's move to full-time writing, with his role co-ordinating the TRA's Reading Partners consortium reducing to one day a week. His previous titles include Mainstream adult non-fiction title If You're Proud to Be a Leeds Fan and self-published children's title Shaking Hands with Michael Rooney.
