St Pancras Foyles arrives late
08.11.07 Graeme Neill
Foyles has been forced to delay the opening of its bookshop in St Pancras until Christmas at the earliest, following continuing engineering work at the station in London.
The store, the independent's fifth, was originally due to be opened this month to coincide with the first trains rolling in from 14th November. However, owing to engineering delays, many of the businesses have been unable to begin refitting their stores.
Foyles' commerical director Vivienne Wordley said the store will now open shortly before or after Christmas. "Our aim is for the new shop to offer a true taste of Foyles," she said. "Customers will find not only the range of titles they'd expect at such a travel shop but some more unusual reading recommendations plus quality gifts and stationery."
The shop will be located in the station's lower arcade. Once the £500,000 refit is completed, the 3,500 square foot store will stock some 6,500 titles. The shop's manager is Simon Mackay, who joined Foyles from SPCK in September. He will work with a team of eight and is joined by Rachel Lloyd from the Charing Cross branch as assistant manager.
