Girls get their turn at HarperCollins
07.11.07 Alison Flood
The trend for all things nostalgic shows no sign of abating, with Dangerous Book For Boys publisher HarperCollins scheduling in The Daring Book For Girls next February. By Andrea Buchanan and Miriam Peskowitz, the title will be a £20 hardback-packaged along the lines of the Dangerous Book For Boys--and is out on 18th February.
HarperCollins says that while there have been "pale imitations" of its Dangerous Book For Boys, "nothing has achieved that same feeling of freedom and adventure that the Dangerous Book had in abundance." It believes The Daring Book For Girls will fill the gap: it will feature "Famous Women Spies and Pirates, Women Who Changed the World, How to Make and Fly a Kite, Seven Daring Wonders of the World, How to Survive in the Wild, and how to try to begin to understand why boys show you they fancy you by pulling your hair."
"The only cooking you'll find in The Daring Book for Girls is cooking over a fire, in the wilderness, while your friends tell you ghost stories to scare you witless," said HarperCollins. "No time for daisy chains and lipstick top tips in this book. This is the book for every girl with an independent spirit and a nose for adventure."
