Redundancies loom at Bloomsbury
02.11.07 Katherine Rushton
An unconfirmed number of jobs are under threat at Bloomsbury, in line with efforts by the publisher to improve profits and position itself for "continued organic growth" post-Harry Potter.
Bloomsbury chief executive Nigel Newton told The Bookseller: "The continued organic growth of the company has led to a time to redefine some roles and responsibilities in some areas. We are consulting with some departments to review their structures. This may result in a small number of employees leaving the business through redundancy." He did not confirm when redundancies would be made.
In September's half-year results, Newton warned: "We are carrying out a detailed review of the group's overheads to determine our requirements to continue the organic growth strategy of the business and also to improve the profits on the revenues currently being generated."
The move follows a number of departures by long-serving staff after the launch of the final Potter, including Minna Fry, Mike Jones and Rosamund de la Hey.
