Canadian bookseller sets US price
Canadian bookseller the Book and Brier Patch has announced it will now offer US books at US prices, rather than see customers head south for cheaper books, reports Canada.com It’s the first local retailer to take initiative in making a switch.
John Kress, owner of Book and Brier Patch, said that he prefered to have customers who are happy to buy books, as opposed to disgruntled customers who aren't thrilled about the discrepancy between US and Canadian prices with the rising value of the dollar. "There's about a 40-per-cent difference on some paperbacks," said Kress of the discrepancy between Canadian and US prices. "People complained about the price difference, and understandably so."
Canadian law prohibits book retailers in Canada from purchasing books from the US, and as such they have to buy the books at the listed Canadian prices.
