Morris steps into Sutton's shoes
30.10.07 Tom Tivnan
Sutton Publishing founder Alan Sutton, who recently headed up the creation of NPI Media Group, is taking on a new role as worldwide president of the company. Tony Morris, the NPI's group publishing director, will succeed Sutton as c.e.o. of UK's largest local and specialist history publisher. NPI also named Peter Teale as group finance and IT director with special responsibility for developing the company's digital media programme.
Sutton said: "The last few months have been exceptionally busy. Now that the integration of the new businesses is complete I am looking forward to helping set up new offices in Europe."
In February, the group bought back Sutton Publishing and acquired four further publishing companies: Jarrold Publishing, Philimore and Company, Oaklands Book Services and US publisher the History Press. Early this month, NPI launched two new imprints, Great Western Press and Lancaster.
Morris said: "We have a raft of ambitious plans for developing our digital publishing programme, but we must never lose touch with our core book business. Alan, perhaps more than anyone else in the UK, has shown how local history can be made accessible and profitable. We owe him a great debt and I look forward to him continuing to mentor the business in his new presidential role."
