Shake-up for British Book Awards
The 2008 Galaxy British Book Awards will cut its number of prize categories in response to industry demand. The 2008 event on 9th April will also see one overall "book of the year" chosen from the winner of individual categories, with the winners of the six adult genre awards making up the
shortlist for the overall winner.
Consultation with guest, sponsors and an industry steering group found that "the majority of people would prefer to eat first and watch the show afterwards". The event will therefore offer food before the prize-giving ceremony at an "extended" ballroom reception. More food will be served during the awards and again afterwards.
The steering group is now working with Cactus TV to see how it might allow more broadcast time to be devoted to authors, "and so add to the promotional value of the event"
