Hamilton backed by HC

HarperCollins is sticking to its astronomical sales expectations for Lewis Hamilton's memoirs, after the British racing star narrowly missed taking the Formula One Championship yesterday. The publisher is currently adding the final chapter to Lewis Hamilton: My Story, which will have an initial print run in excess of 225,000 copies in the UK alone. The £18.99 hardback is due out on 5th November.

"Lewis has had such a fantastic year, and it was close-he certainly hasn't disgraced himself," said HC senior publicity director Jane Beaton. "We're very positive." HC has a "very large" serial in place for the book, and said that it had received "phenomenal interest" from the home market as well as enquiries from all around the world.

The book will cover the rookie McLaren driver's life so far as well as a detailed account of every race of the 2007 F1 World Championship, including yesterday's Brazil showdown. HarperSport publishing director Jonathan Taylor said: "Lewis’s story from go-kart glory to Formula 1 star has really captured the imagination not just of motor-racing fans here but of millions of enthusiasts around the globe. Lewis is a worldwide success and his many fans abroad seem as eager to read his story as we are in the UK."
