Penguin keeps eye on BBC Lonely Planet
Penguin, publisher of the Rough Guide travel books, has said that it will closely monitor how the BBC makes use of Lonely Planet after the broadcaster's commercial arm bought most of the rival travel guide publisher this month, reports the Guardian.
Speaking about BBC Worldwide's acquisition of 75% of Lonely Planet for up to £100m, Penguin head John Makinson said his group would watch how the relationship plays out between the commercial arm and the BBC. "They are obviously arguing that this is an acquisition through BBC Worldwide," he said. "We will just keep a careful watch on the relationship going forward."
