Mobile bookshop search launched

The company behind retail chain Samedaybooks has launched a new service to help consumers locate bookshops on their mobile phones. The BookRabbit service can be used by any internet accessible mobile phone and uses Google Maps to give the location of bookshops.

Bookshops are also able to upload information about their inventories to the service, so consumers can check if a specific book is in stock.

Kieron Smith, m.d. of Retail8, the consumer wing of ArgentVive, said BookRabbit would provide a greater depth of information than directory enquiry services such as Yell or 118118. "We have the details of 1,700 bookshops," he said. "We're also adding bookshop reviews, and event details to BookRabbit. Soon we're sure it will be a key reference site in every book lover's pocket," he said.

Smith said the company plans to relaunch the Samedaybooks website along with introducing a same day delivery service within the M25 within the next month.

Samedaybooks was taken over by entrepreneur Charles Denton in June. The company has since changed its name to ArgentVive.

Kevin Fleming, finance director of ArgentVive, commented: "ArgentVive's aim is to provide innovative B2B and B2C solutions, such as BookRabbitTM. We will have further announcements in due course as we progress our ambitious growth plans."

Sounds like a gerat idea to me - this is one company that is embracing new technology in ways that will benefit not just the consumer, but also their own business. Others should watch and learn.
