Frankfurt: strikes hit attendance
15.10.07 Tom Tivnan
Attendance dipped slightly at this year's Frankfurt Book Fair, with a strike by train drivers on the Friday blamed for the downturn. The fair attracted 283,293 visitors over the five days, a dip of 1.2% from the previous year.
But Thomas Minkus, the fair's marketing director, said he was "very pleased" with the results, adding: "Our trade visitor numbers were up 0.6%, even with the strike."
Minkus estimated that the train strike cost the fair as many as 1800 attendees. He also added that numbers of casual visitors over the weekend was affected by the start of a German school holiday.
