Talking Head writes
Faber has acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to a travelogue-cum-cycling book by former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne. The deal, for an undisclosed amount, was done by Walter Donohue through Tracy Bohan at the Wylie Agency. Several publishers are circling for US rights with a deal said to be imminent.
In addition to being a musician, artist and film-maker, Byrne is a keen cyclist. The Bicycle Diaries are his reflections from his bike on the cities he has visited: London, Berlin, Istanbul, Buenos Aires, Paris, Belgrade, Sydney, Manila and New York. The book promises a "panoramic window on urban life over the past 20 years—a big window positioned at bike level, that looks out on a dense man-made landscape".
Faber first published Byrne’s screenplay "True Stories" in 1986, and most recently "The New Sins" in 2001. Donohue said: "Our relationship with David Byrne began 21 years ago and it’s wonderful to see how his work has evolved over the years. The vision in The Bicycle Diaries is warm and passionate, and provides a fresh perspective on the world around us and what it means to be human."
